‍Henry Cecil GIVENS was born on October 26, 1910, at London, Ontario.

In 1933, he joined the RCAF where he trained at the Boundary Bay airport. 

In 1941, he was granted a commission and enlisted in the Aeronautical Engineer Branch, RCAF.

On March 2, 1942, he was posted overseas to 408 (Goose) Squadron, Station Leeming, UK and promoted to Squadron Leader.
