Glen Harry BRIDGE was born on August 30, 1921.  He was the son of Clyde BRIDGE, who served in World War I and the father of 2Lt Henry BRIDGE (49th Field Artillery Regiment). Henry loaned his family’s medals to Matsqui Unit #315, so their stories can be told.

In 1939, Glen enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).  He was attached to the Royal Air Force (RAF) and stationed at Dunnet Head(?) Radar Station on the northern coast of Scotland.  Dunnet Head was part of the United Kingdoms Chain Home, a series of radar stations using top secret radar technology to detect enemy aircraft.

On the night of December 6-7, 1941(?), Dunnet Head was attacked by a German U-boat raid as part of a larger German strategy to disrupt British coastal defenses and gather intelligence on the secret radar technology. During this raid, Glen and several of his comrades were captured and taken to Germany as prisoners of war.

He was assigned POW #6008980 and was held at Stalag 11A in Altengrabow, Germany, until the end of the war.

Glen BRIDGE died on February 20, 2008.
