Private Stephen BRICE

Stephen Leslie BRICE was born on November 22, 1891, in Streatham, England. 

On August 26, 1915, he enlisted in the 62nd Battalion, CEF.  He served on the battle fields in France with the 4th Canadian Machine Gun Corps.

On August 15, 1917, he was wounded by shrapnel at Lens, France, in the ‘Battle of Hill 70’.  His right leg was amputated and he was subsequently discharged from the military.

During WW2, Stephen lost two sons on active service with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).  Pilot/Sgt. Vincent BRICE and Flight/Lt. Francis Sergeant BRICE. Mount Brice (Skagit Valley, BC) was named after the two BRICE brothers for their sacrifice to Canada.

He was a prominent chartered member of Matsqui Unit #315.

He was a member of the Chilliwack Flying Club and co-responsible for the building of the Chilliwack Airport.

Stephen Leslie BRICE died on January 12, 1970 (78), at Vancouver, BC.
