James DUNNILL was born on December 17, 1884, at Wakefield Yorks, England. He is the grandfather of a child he never knew, Pam MITCHELL (Matsqui Unit #315 member).
On January 24, 1916, he enlisted with the 28th Infantry Battalion (Saskatchewan Regiment), CEF, where he fought on the battle fields in France.
On March 24, 1917, he was killed in action. He was 32 years old.
James DUNNILL is buried at the Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont -St. Eloi, France (Battle for Vimy Ridge). The inscription on James DUNNILL’s headstone reads,
“GOD WILL CLASP THE BROKEN CHAIN CLOSER WHEN WE MEET AGAIN”
